The CLEVELAND C14610 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-speed drilling into tough workpiece materials including alloy steel and aluminum. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, the bit handles elevated cutting temperatures without losing hardness, making it a reliable choice for production drilling applications. The 135-degree split point reduces the need for a center punch and minimizes walking on flat or curved surfaces. At 2-3/16 inches overall length with a 1-1/8 inch flute length, this stub-length geometry provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-reach drilling setups.
The C14610 is suited for use in screw machines, drill presses, and CNC machining centers where short, rigid tooling is required. The 3/16 inch diameter and straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard chucks and collet holders. Typical applications include high-volume production drilling in metal fabrication, aerospace component work, and maintenance repair operations where alloy and aluminum materials are commonly encountered. The right-hand cut with regular spiral and 2-flute configuration provides efficient chip evacuation in these materials.
Designed as a replacement or supplemental tooling option for applications requiring a 3/16 inch cobalt screw machine length drill bit with a straight-cylindrical shank, conforming to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 specifications.
Install and remove drill bits only with the machine fully powered off and the spindle at a complete stop. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth before tightening. Machining trade professionals should verify proper spindle speed and feed rate for the specific workpiece material before beginning a cut. Eye protection and appropriate machine guarding are required per standard shop safety practices.
