The CLEVELAND C14607 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance metal drilling in demanding trade and production applications. Built to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 standards, this No. 14 wire gauge bit measures 0.1820 inches in diameter with a 2-3/16 inch overall length. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and requires less feed pressure at entry, making it well suited for interrupted cuts and hard materials. The M42 cobalt construction provides heat resistance beyond standard high-speed steel, extending tool life when drilling alloy steels and other tough workpieces. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix and web-thinned parallel web promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce thrust. The straight cylindrical shank mounts in standard drill chucks without adapters.
This bit is intended for screw machine, CNC, and manual drill press operations where a shorter flute length improves rigidity and reduces deflection. Primary workpiece materials include alloy steel and aluminum, making it a common choice for fabrication shops, maintenance technicians, and industrial production lines. The screw machine length format is shorter than jobber length, which increases stiffness in close-quarters or high-feed drilling setups. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and hand-drill use.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cutting tool compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.1820-inch straight cylindrical shank, suitable for screw machine, drill press, and CNC drilling applications.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool and die technician familiar with cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Always wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is firmly clamped before starting the spindle. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling hard alloys to manage heat buildup.
