The CLEVELAND C14590 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for fast, accurate drilling in demanding shop and field applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this bit handles the heat and abrasion that come with drilling alloy steels, aluminum, and other tough workpiece materials. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without walking, eliminating the need for a center punch on most surfaces. At 2-1/16 inches overall length, the screw machine format fits tight-clearance applications where standard-length bits cannot reach the chuck. Flute length is 1 inch with a straight cylindrical shank sized at 0.1562 inches in diameter.
This bit is suited for use in drill presses, CNC drilling centers, and hand-held power drills in production and maintenance environments. The short, rigid body minimizes deflection in high-cycle drilling operations on metal fabrication, automotive, and HVAC sheet metal work. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer include alloy steel and aluminum. The right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling at production feed rates.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for screw machine length drill bits in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1562-inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible with alloy steel and aluminum workpieces per manufacturer specification.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill press or power tool powered off and the chuck fully disengaged. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in a keyed or keyless chuck before applying feed pressure. Follow applicable OSHA and ANSI machine guarding requirements when operating drill presses or CNC equipment. Do not exceed the feed rates and speeds recommended for cobalt bits in the material being drilled, as overheating shortens tool life.
