Product Description

The CLEVELAND C14580 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for precision drilling in tough materials. Built to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 standards, this heavy-duty bit features a 135-degree split point with web thinning for fast starts and reduced walking on contact. At 9/64 inch (0.1406 inches) in diameter and 1-15/16 inches overall length, it fits stub-length drilling applications where clearance is limited. The M42 cobalt construction handles heat and wear generated when cutting alloy steels, aluminum, and other demanding workpiece materials. Machinists, tool and die shops, and field service technicians rely on this bit for reliable performance in production and maintenance drilling.

The C14580 is suited for screw machine operations, turret lathe setups, and hand or drill press work where a short, rigid bit reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy. Its straight cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks and collet holders. The regular spiral with two flutes provides efficient chip evacuation during right-hand cutting operations in alloy and non-ferrous materials including aluminum.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt construction for extended tool life in abrasive and hard materials
  • 135-degree split point with web thinning for self-centering starts and reduced thrust
  • Screw machine (stub) length at 1-15/16 inches OAL for increased rigidity and reduced deflection
  • Right-hand cut with regular spiral and two flutes for effective chip removal
  • Straight cylindrical shank at 0.1406 inches diameter fits standard chucks and collets
  • Built to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 specifications for consistent dimensional accuracy

Compatibility

Designed as a direct-fit stub-length drill bit for use in standard three-jaw chucks, Jacobs-style collets, and screw machine turrets accepting a 0.1406-inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible with alloy and aluminum workpiece materials per Series 2133 application data.

Installation Notes

Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with rotary cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and confirm runout is within acceptable limits. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow machine guarding requirements per OSHA 1910.212 when operating drill presses or lathes. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace the bit if dimensional tolerance or point geometry is compromised.
