The CLEVELAND C14552 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in tight spaces and short-reach applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it handles demanding materials including alloy steels and aluminum without losing edge hardness under heat. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch and reduces thrust. At 0.0960 inches in diameter (wire size 41) and 1-13/16 inches overall length, this stub-length bit fits standard drill chucks and is well suited to CNC machines, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where a shorter bit reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy.
This bit is intended for production and maintenance applications requiring precise, small-diameter holes in alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials. The screw machine length format is common in machining shops, assembly lines, and field service work where rigidity matters more than depth reach. The straight cylindrical shank at 0.0960 inches diameter seats securely in standard chucks. The 13/16-inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance for the bit diameter. It conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 standards, making it a recognized specification part for drawing callouts and quality-controlled environments.
Designed as an OEM-specification screw machine drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks accepting 0.0960-inch diameter shanks, suitable for CNC drilling, drill press, and hand-held power tool applications.
Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance technicians using standard drill press, mill, or hand-held equipment. Ensure the chuck is fully tightened and the work piece is clamped or fixtured before drilling. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is present.
