The CLEVELAND C14249 is a screw machine length (stub length) cobalt drill bit designed for high-production drilling in demanding materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a 135-degree split point with web thinning for fast penetration and reduced thrust. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation in deep-hole applications. At 2.25 inches overall length with a 1.1875-inch flute, this heavy-duty bit is suited for use in screw machines, CNC lathes, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where rigidity and compact length reduce deflection and chatter.
This bit is sized at No. 9 wire gauge, equivalent to 0.1960 inch decimal diameter, with a straight-cylindrical shank of the same diameter for direct chuck mounting. The oxide straw coating provides moderate lubricity and corrosion resistance during dry or lightly lubricated drilling. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance mechanics working in shops producing small-diameter through-holes in hard or abrasive stock rely on this style of bit for consistent dimensional accuracy within a tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0007 inch.
Designed for drilling aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastics, stainless steel, and tool steel. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1960-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Conforms to ANSI specification for screw machine length drill bits, Series 2175.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance personnel familiar with cutting tool setup. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck and verify runout before commencing a cut. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the bit. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless steel or nickel alloys to manage heat buildup.
