The CLEVELAND C14247 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from M42 cobalt steel, this bit handles alloy steels, aluminum, and other tough materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. It features a 135-degree split point for fast starts without center-punching and a parabolic flute geometry that clears chips efficiently. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.2010 inches in diameter, matching the wire size 7 designation at 0.2010 inches drill diameter. At 2.25 inches overall length, the stub-style body is rigid and reduces deflection during tight-clearance or fixture-guided drilling operations.
This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die workers, sheet metal fabricators, and maintenance technicians who need a compact, high-duty drill for production or repair work. The screw machine length format fits drill presses, CNC machining centers, hand drills, and right-angle drill setups where a jobber-length bit would be too long. Primary workpiece materials include alloy steel and aluminum. The web-thinned, parallel web configuration reduces thrust load at the cutting edge, which is useful when drilling through harder alloy grades.
Designed as a heavy-duty OEM-style screw machine drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks across drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held power drills. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are alloy steel and aluminum.
This bit is installed by machinists and metalworking technicians in any straight-shank drill chuck sized to accept a 0.2010-inch shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within tolerance for close-fit hole applications. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, as this bit does not support coolant-through capability. Inspect the cutting edges and point for wear or chipping before each use, and replace the bit when diameter tolerance can no longer be held.
