The CLEVELAND C14238 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for demanding metal-cutting applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this bit handles harder workpiece materials where standard HSS tooling falls short. It measures 21/32 inch (0.6562 inch) in diameter with a 4-1/2 inch overall length, making it well-suited for use in tight-clearance setups and short-stroke drill presses. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements at the spindle. A parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the web-thinned, parallel web construction keeps cutting action consistent throughout the flute length. Licensed machinists, toolroom techs, and industrial maintenance professionals are the primary users of this bit.
This drill bit is designed for right-hand cutting in alloy steel and aluminum workpieces, typical of production machining, MRO, and heavy fabrication environments. The screw machine length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection during interrupted cuts or when drilling through harder material grades. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders sized for 0.6563 inch shank diameter. It conforms to ASME B94.11M standards under ANSI specification designation and carries a heavy-duty grade rating within the Cleveland Series 2175 product line.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tooling for drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drilling equipment accepting a 0.6563 inch straight-cylindrical shank, with primary application in alloy steel and aluminum workpieces.
Installation of this bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle or drill press is powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the chuck or collet to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth before beginning any operation. Verify spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before cutting.
