The CLEVELAND C14233 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and field applications. Built to ASME B94.11M standards and graded heavy duty, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements. The parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling. At 0.5781 inches in diameter with an overall length of 4.125 inches, this stub-length bit delivers rigidity and reduced deflection compared to jobber-length designs. It is typically installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working with alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials.
The C14233 is suited for screw machine operations, CNC drilling, and manual drill press work where a shorter, stiffer bit is preferred over standard jobber length. Its straight cylindrical shank accommodates standard drill chucks without modification. The right-hand cut and web-thinned parallel web configuration make it effective on alloy steels and aluminum in both production and maintenance environments. The M42 cobalt material grade provides heat resistance for higher-speed cutting compared to standard high-speed steel bits.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use screw machine drill bit for applications requiring a 37/64 inch diameter, right-hand cut, straight cylindrical shank bit compatible with standard drill chucks. Primary workpiece materials listed include alloy steel and aluminum.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by machinists or trade technicians using a drill press, lathe, or CNC machine equipped with a standard chuck or collet sized for a 0.5781-inch shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance for the application. Cutting fluid or coolant is recommended for extended use in alloy steel, even though this bit does not have through-coolant capability. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the point geometry is compromised.
