The CLEVELAND C14220 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and field applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this bit handles hard alloys, stainless, and other tough workpiece materials that standard HSS bits struggle with. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking on flat surfaces. At 3-1/8 inches overall length and 3/8 inch diameter, the stub-length profile provides added rigidity and reduces deflection compared to jobber-length bits. Parabolic flutes improve chip evacuation, and the web-thinned, parallel-web construction keeps cutting forces manageable even in harder materials. Meets ASME B94.11M and ANSI standards.
The C14220 is suited for production drilling, maintenance work, and fabrication environments where hole accuracy and tool life in alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials are priorities. The screw machine length format makes it practical for drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual lathes where a shorter, stiffer bit is preferred over a standard jobber. The right-hand cutting direction and straight cylindrical shank allow use in any standard 3/8 inch or larger drill chuck.
Designed as an OEM-style screw machine length drill bit in the Cleveland Series 2175, suitable for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual lathes that accept a straight cylindrical 3/8 inch shank. Rated for primary workpiece materials including alloy steel and aluminum.
This bit is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians in drill presses, lathes, or hand drills using a standard chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck jaws before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Follow shop safety protocols including eye protection and secure workpiece clamping before drilling.
