The CLEVELAND C12670 is a taper shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, fabrication, and machining applications. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it accepts a Morse taper No. 3 (3MT) shank for direct mounting in taper-socket spindles on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines. The bit measures 11/16 inch (0.6875 inch) in diameter, carries a 118-degree standard point angle, and features a web-thinned tip to reduce thrust and improve hole entry. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and industrial maintenance environments. The 3MT taper shank seats directly in compatible taper-socket chucks and spindle sleeves without a separate chuck, making it a straightforward choice for drill presses and lathes equipped with Morse taper receivers. The general-purpose classification covers drilling in mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials at standard cutting speeds.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a Morse Taper No. 3 (3MT) spindle socket or sleeve adapter.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool-room technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the taper shank. Clean both the shank and the spindle socket of chips, oil, and debris before insertion to ensure full taper contact. Use a drift and drift slot to remove the bit from the spindle — never strike the bit directly.
