The CLEVELAND C12069 is a taper shank drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and similar materials. It accepts a 1MT (Morse Taper No. 1) shank, making it compatible with drill presses and machine tool spindles fitted with a matching taper socket. The bit is ground from high-speed steel with an oxide finish that reduces friction and provides basic corrosion resistance. The 118-degree standard point with web thinning allows for reliable center-starting and reduces thrust during entry. Overall length is 6 inches with a flute length of 2.75 inches, giving adequate chip clearance for moderate-depth holes. Cutting direction is right-hand with a regular spiral flute pattern.
This bit is suited for machine shop, maintenance, and production drilling applications where a taper shank drive is required. The 1MT taper fits smaller bench drill presses and turret lathes commonly found in light manufacturing and maintenance environments. With a drill diameter of 0.2031 inches (13/64 inch) and a tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0007 inches, it is appropriate for close-tolerance hole making where a standard jobber-length bit cannot reach or a taper-drive spindle is in use. It is a general-purpose tool not optimized for hardened alloys or interrupted cuts.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock taper shank drill bit for drill presses, lathes, and machine tool spindles equipped with a No. 1 Morse Taper (1MT) socket.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians. Before inserting the bit, ensure the spindle and taper shank are clean and free of chips, oil, or burrs that could prevent full seating. Insert the taper shank fully into the spindle socket and apply a firm upward tap to lock it in place. To remove, use a taper drift through the spindle drift slot — never use excessive side force on the bit body, as this can damage the taper surfaces.
