The CLEVELAND C11656 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metal fabrication, maintenance, and production drilling applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The web-thinned, tapered web construction lowers thrust requirements, making it well suited for hand-held and drill-press setups alike. At 0.2210 inches in diameter (Wire Size 2) with an overall length of 3.875 inches, the C11656 conforms to NAS 907 Type B standards and carries a heavy-duty grade rating for demanding cutting conditions.
This drill bit is rated for aluminum as its primary workpiece material and is appropriate for general-purpose drilling in light alloys, soft metals, and similar materials encountered in HVAC fab shops, electrical panel work, plumbing rough-in, and mechanical contracting. The right-hand spiral flute with a 2.625-inch flute length provides efficient chip evacuation during through-hole drilling. It is sold individually and is a standard addition to field tool kits or shop drill index sets where Wire Size 2 coverage is needed.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit for use in any 3-jaw or keyed drill chuck accepting a 0.2210-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including hand drills, drill presses, and mill spindles configured for wire-gauge tooling.
Installation and use of this drill bit should follow safe machine-tool practices: secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm chuck capacity before seating the shank. Always power down and de-energize the drill press or hand tool before changing bits. When drilling aluminum or soft alloys, a suitable cutting fluid is recommended to extend bit life and improve hole finish, though the bright coating supports dry drilling as well. Disposal of worn or broken bits should follow applicable shop safety protocols.
