The CLEVELAND C11449 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 49 (0.0730 inches decimal), built for cutting hard and abrasive materials where standard high-speed steel bits fail prematurely. The bit is manufactured from M42 cobalt steel and coated with TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) for elevated heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding drilling operations. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch and reduces walking on flat or curved surfaces. Overall length is 2 inches with a 1-inch parabolic flute, right-hand cut, and straight-cylindrical shank. Licensed machinists, tool and die technicians, and metal fabricators will find this bit well-suited to production and maintenance work.
The C11449 is designed for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and similarly tough ferrous and hard-alloy workpieces. The parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling and reduces heat buildup in the cut zone. At 0.0730-inch diameter, this bit is commonly used for tapping preparation, precision hole sizing, and fine-pitch fastener clearance work in metal fabrication, aerospace component maintenance, and industrial machine shops. Coolant-through is not supported; external coolant application or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling stainless or work-hardening alloys.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use jobber-length drill bit for any standard drill press, CNC machining center, or hand drill chuck accepting a 0.0730-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials stated by the manufacturer are cast iron and stainless steel.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tool technicians familiar with proper speeds and feeds for cobalt drill bits in ferrous materials. Secure the shank fully in a chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Apply cutting fluid or external coolant when drilling stainless steel or other work-hardening alloys to prevent premature coating breakdown. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping between uses, as small-diameter cobalt bits are susceptible to breakage under excessive feed pressure or lateral loading.
