The CLEVELAND C09774 is a taper length drill bit built for demanding metal-cutting applications in production and maintenance environments. Manufactured from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit is sized at 23/32 inches (0.7188 inches decimal) and grinds to a standard 118-degree point angle. The flute length runs 9 inches and the overall length reaches 12 inches, giving it extended reach over a jobber-length bit without sacrificing rigidity. A web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust force at the point and improves chip evacuation. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance mechanics reach for this bit when standard-length drills fall short on deep-hole work.
The C09774 is suited for drilling alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron in both shop and field settings. The straight shank seats directly in standard drill chucks and CNC tool holders without an adapter. Right-hand spiral flutes pull chips up and out of the hole during operation. The 23/32-inch diameter falls within a common range for bolt-clearance holes, reamed-bore prep, and structural fabrication work where precise hole sizing matters. Diameter tolerance is held to +0.0000 to -0.0012 inches, making it appropriate for close-tolerance applications.
Designed for use in alloy tool steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Straight shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks and collet-style CNC tool holders accepting a 23/32-inch shank diameter. Part of the Cleveland Series 950E taper length drill line.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die tradespeople familiar with drilling feeds, speeds, and coolant practices for the material being cut. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or holder before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing bits. Do not use this bit in hammer-drill or rotary-percussion mode — it is designed for rotary cutting only.
