The CLEVELAND C09679 is a high-speed steel extra length drill bit engineered for deeper drilling and long-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot reach. Measuring 8 inches in overall length with a 5.5-inch spiral flute, it delivers extended reach without sacrificing rigidity. The bit carries a 118-degree standard point angle, a web-thinned and tapered web configuration for easier penetration, and an oxide finish that provides a base level of lubricity during cutting. At 0.4688 inches in diameter, it fits a straight-cylindrical shank geometry compatible with standard drill chucks. Licensed tradespeople and machinists working with cast iron and steel will reach for this bit when clearance is the limiting factor.
The C09679 belongs to the Cleveland 950E series, designed for general-purpose metal drilling where additional flute length is required to clear deep holes or work through thick stock. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel. The right-hand cutting direction and two-flute spiral configuration support efficient chip evacuation in these materials. Typical applications include fabrication shops, mechanical contractors, and maintenance trades requiring extended-reach drilling in structural steel, pipe, or cast iron components.
Designed as a general-purpose extra length drill bit for use in cast iron and steel. The straight-cylindrical shank at 15/32 inches fits standard three-jaw drill chucks used in drill presses, hand drills, and milling machine setups.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a calibrated drill chuck before operation. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve chip evacuation in deep holes. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured before drilling to prevent movement. Follow applicable ANSI and ASME B94.11M guidelines for drill bit selection, speed, and feed rates relative to workpiece material and hole depth.
