The CLEVELAND C09665 is an extra length high-speed steel drill bit designed for deeper drilling and long-reach drilling applications where standard-length bits fall short. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it features a 1/4 inch diameter, a 118-degree standard point angle, and a spiral flute configuration. The overall length of 8 inches combined with a 5.5-inch flute length gives technicians and tradespeople the reach needed to bore through assemblies, deep cavities, or stacked materials without repositioning. The web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust and helps keep the bit on center at entry. This bit is suited for general-purpose use across metalworking and maintenance tasks.
The C09665 is primarily intended for drilling into cast iron and steel, making it a practical choice for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades when field-drilling through structural members, brackets, equipment frames, or enclosures. The right-hand cutting direction and straight-cylindrical shank allow it to seat directly in standard drill chucks without adapters. The 1/4 inch shank diameter matches the bit diameter, keeping the tool profile consistent through the full depth of cut. It fits common 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch keyed or keyless drill chucks used in trade work.
Designed for use in standard 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch drill chucks. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel. Meets ASME B94.11M and ANSI specification designations for twist drill dimensions and tolerances.
Installation of this bit is performed by any trade professional using a corded or cordless drill or drill press. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck before use and confirm the chuck key is removed before powering the tool. When drilling into ferrous metals such as cast iron or steel, use cutting fluid where possible to extend bit life and maintain dimensional tolerance. Wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is clamped or secured before beginning the bore.
