The CLEVELAND C09655 is a Series 950E extra length high-speed steel (HSS) drill bit designed for deeper drilling and long-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot reach. It carries a 0.0938 inch (3/32 inch) diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle and a spiral, right-hand cutting flute configuration. The oxide finish provides a baseline level of surface hardness and lubricity. At 8 inches overall length with a 5.5-inch flute length, this bit gives machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians the reach needed in deep-hole and extended-cavity work on steel and cast iron substrates.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling into cast iron and steel in applications that require extended reach beyond what a jobber-length or screw-machine-length bit can provide. Typical use cases include drilling deep through-holes in structural steel, thick castings, or assemblies where the drill must extend past fixtures or obstructions. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces thrust and improves chip clearing in these deeper passes. Right-hand spiral flute geometry pulls chips up and out during cutting, which is especially important in deep-hole work.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose extra length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and drill press spindles accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron; secondary workpiece material is cast iron.
This bit is installed by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and metal fabricators using a drill press, mill, or portable drill with a chuck rated for the 3/32 inch shank diameter. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. For deep-hole passes, use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant to manage heat and extend tool life, and back the bit out periodically to clear chips. Power down and de-energize any machine spindle completely before changing or inspecting the bit.
