The CLEVELAND C08890 is a taper length drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in metals and ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a coated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip clearance on entry. The straight shank measures 0.875 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. With a 10-inch overall length and a 6.125-inch spiral flute, the C08890 reaches deeper than jobber-length bits while maintaining rigidity. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and industrial maintenance techs are the primary installers and operators.
This bit is sized for 7/8-inch diameter holes and is rated for general-purpose work in alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. The taper length body gives additional reach for through-holes in thicker stock or structural sections where a jobber-length bit falls short. The right-hand spiral flute and web-thinned point make it suitable for use in both floor-standing drill presses and heavy-duty hand drills with adequate chuck capacity. It ships as a single unit and is intended for professional shop and field use.
Designed for general-purpose drilling in alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Compatible with drill presses and hand drills equipped with a chuck rated for a 0.875-inch straight shank. Conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 standards for taper length drill bits.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance tradespeople familiar with metal drilling practices. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Always use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to prevent overheating and premature edge wear. Ensure the workpiece is properly clamped or fixtured before starting the cut.
