The CLEVELAND C08827 is a taper length, high-speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and machine shop environments. Built to ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 standards, the C08827 features a 118-degree standard point angle with web thinning for easier center penetration and reduced thrust. The straight shank measures 0.4375 inches in diameter, and the overall length of 7.25 inches gives this bit added reach compared to a jobber-length drill, making it a go-to choice when standard-length bits come up short. Machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance mechanics install this bit in handheld drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills.
The C08827 is suited for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Its taper length design provides extra reach for deeper holes or applications where the work piece depth exceeds the capacity of a jobber-length bit. The right-hand spiral flute evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. This bit is a practical fit for production drilling, field maintenance work, and general metal fabrication tasks where a longer-reach, straight-shank bit is required.
Designed for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron applications. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks sized for 7/16 inch or larger capacity, including handheld drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills used in general-purpose metalworking.
Secure the straight shank fully into a keyed or keyless chuck before drilling and verify runout before beginning a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant on the work piece surface to extend bit life when drilling hardened or thick steel stock. Operate at manufacturer-recommended speeds for the material and diameter being drilled; excessive speed generates heat that degrades the cutting edge. Inspect the point and cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed.
