The CLEVELAND C08824 is a taper length drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. Built from high-speed steel with a coated finish, this bit carries a 27/64 inch diameter and a standard 118-degree split point. The taper length design places more of the flute length ahead of the shank, giving machinists and tool room technicians greater reach than a jobber-length bit without sacrificing rigidity. A web-thinned, tapered web reduces thrust at the cutting edge and improves chip evacuation. The right-hand spiral flute with a regular helix is suited to a wide range of ferrous materials at typical spindle speeds.
The C08824 is intended for use in drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held power tools where a straight-shank bit is required. Its taper length body makes it well-suited for applications where standard jobber bits fall short in reach. Typical users include machinists, maintenance technicians, tool room operators, and metalworking shops performing production or maintenance drilling operations. The bit is manufactured to ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 standards, confirming consistent dimensional tolerances across the cutting edge and shank.
Rated for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Designed as a general-purpose taper length replacement bit compatible with any drill press, machining center, or power drill accepting a straight-shank bit in the 27/64 inch diameter range.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Power down the machine and bring the spindle to a complete stop before changing or inspecting the bit. Do not exceed the recommended speed range for the workpiece material, and use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life.
