The CLEVELAND C08746 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel with a coated finish, it carries a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip clearance at entry. The bit measures 0.25 inches (Letter E) in diameter with a flute length of 3.75 inches and an overall length of 6.125 inches. The right-hand spiral flute promotes efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and deep drilling passes. This bit is suited for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and metal fabricators working with ferrous and non-ferrous stock.
This drill bit is built for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. The taper length body — longer than a jobber bit but shorter than an extra-long series — gives added reach for setups where a standard jobber length falls short, such as drilling through structural members, flanges, or offset fixture work. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. It meets ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 dimensional standards, making it a reliable fit for shops running to print tolerances. The 2510 series positions it as a general-purpose workhorse for production and maintenance drilling alike.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.25-inch straight shank. Rated for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron in general-purpose metalworking applications.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, hand drill, or milling machine equipped with a keyed or keyless chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout if tolerance-critical holes are required. Use appropriate cutting fluid for steel applications to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is present.
