The CLEVELAND C04668 is a screw machine length (stub length) drill bit engineered for general-purpose hole-making in metal fabrication, machining, and maintenance applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit measures 1 inch in diameter with a 6-inch overall length and a 4-inch flute length. The 118-degree standard point angle delivers reliable penetration across a wide range of workpiece materials. Its shorter-than-jobber body provides added rigidity in drill presses, lathes, and CNC setups where chatter and deflection need to be minimized. The straight cylindrical shank seats securely in standard chucks and collets. This bit ships as a single unit and conforms to ASME B94.11M standards.
The C04668 is suited for drilling alloy steels, aluminum, and similar machinable materials in both production and job-shop environments. The short flute design reduces flex, making it a practical choice for through-hole and blind-hole operations in rigid setups. It is commonly used by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, maintenance mechanics, and industrial tradespeople working with drill presses, manual lathes, and turret machines. The right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips effectively during standard clockwise cutting operations.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or direct-use drill bit for applications requiring a 1-inch diameter screw machine length HSS bit conforming to ASME B94.11M, Series 2120.
This bit is installed by a machinist or qualified tradesperson into a drill press, lathe tailstock, or CNC turret using a properly sized chuck or collet. Secure the machine and confirm the workpiece is clamped before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid for alloy steel workpieces to extend tool life and manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and do not run a chipped or worn bit at full feed rate.
