The CLEVELAND C04647 is a screw machine length (stub length) drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and production environments. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 13/16 inch (0.8125 inch) diameter, a standard 118-degree split point, and a right-hand cutting direction. The shorter overall length of 5.25 inches provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in drill press and CNC drilling applications. Two spiral flutes with a web-thinned parallel web configuration improve chip evacuation and reduce thrust force at entry. Licensed HVAC techs, machinists, and trade professionals reach for this bit when hole accuracy and tool life in alloy and aluminum stock are the priority.
The C04647 is suited for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials in both manual and machine-fed operations. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. The stub length format makes it a practical choice for tight-clearance drilling, drill press work, and screw machine setups where a longer jobber bit would introduce unwanted flex. It conforms to ASME B94.11M and ANSI specification standards, making it appropriate for shop environments where dimensional compliance is required.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.8125 inch straight cylindrical shank, suitable for alloy steel and aluminum workpieces in drill press, lathe, and screw machine applications.
Installation and use of this bit is performed by machinists, tool and die technicians, or qualified trade professionals operating drill presses, lathes, or screw machines. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck key is removed before powering the machine. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life, noting this bit does not have through-coolant capability. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the point geometry is compromised.
