The CLEVELAND C04606 is a screw machine length (stub length) drill bit designed for high-throughput drilling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit features a 17/32 inch (0.5313 inch decimal) diameter, a standard 118-degree point angle, and a web-thinned parallel web configuration for reduced thrust and easier starting. At 3-7/8 inches overall length with a 2-3/8 inch flute length, the shorter-than-jobber body provides increased rigidity, making it well suited for drill press, CNC, and turret lathe setups where chatter and deflection must be minimized.
This bit is intended for general-purpose drilling in alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials in production and maintenance shop environments. The straight cylindrical shank (0.5313 inch shank diameter) seats directly in standard drill chucks and collet holders without adapters. The two-spiral flutes with right-hand cut are compatible with conventional drill press rotation. It is typically used by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians running manual or CNC drilling operations.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or production drill bit for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.5313 inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for drill presses, CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and manual mills where a stub-length HSS drill is specified.
Install and remove this bit only with the spindle at a full stop and the machine isolated from power. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck or collet to the full recommended grip depth to prevent slippage under load. Inspect the cutting edges and web-thinned point for wear or chipping before each use; a dull or chipped point increases thrust and can cause workpiece damage or bit breakage. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so apply cutting fluid externally when drilling steel at higher feed rates.
