The CLEVELAND C04493 is a screw machine length (stub-length) drill bit in wire gauge size 2, with a decimal diameter of 0.2210 inches. Built from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle, two spiral flutes, and a web-thinned tip that reduces thrust during entry. The straight-cylindrical shank runs 0.2210 inches in diameter, making it compatible with standard drill chucks. With a total overall length of 2.4375 inches, the short flute length improves rigidity and reduces deflection in production drilling applications. Machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance technicians rely on this geometry for accurate, repeatable hole-making in general-purpose metalworking.
This bit is designed for right-hand cutting in general-purpose drilling operations on alloy steels and aluminum workpieces. The screw machine length body keeps the tool short and stiff, making it well suited for drill press, turret lathe, and CNC applications where a standard jobber-length bit would flex or wander. The parallel web configuration and web-thinned point reduce walking on entry without requiring a center punch in most setups. Suitable for production environments and maintenance shops working with ferrous and non-ferrous materials at conventional cutting speeds without coolant-through capability.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.2210 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for drilling alloy steel and aluminum workpieces per the Series 2120 specification.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade technicians familiar with drill press, lathe, or CNC tooling procedures. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine-guarding requirements when operating rotating tooling. Do not exceed the recommended cutting speed for the workpiece material, and ensure the spindle is fully stopped before changing or adjusting the bit.
