The CLEVELAND C04452 is a screw machine length (stub length) twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in metal fabrication and machining environments. It cuts a 0.1610-inch diameter hole using a 118-degree standard point ground from high-speed steel (HSS). The shortened flute and overall length of 2.125 inches make it well-suited for use in drill presses, screw machines, CNC turret lathes, and other rigid setups where a stub-length tool reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for general-purpose cutting without the need for specialized coatings. Installation and use are performed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and metalworking trades.
This bit is intended for drilling into alloy steel and aluminum in production and job-shop settings. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction reduces thrust load at the point, which is beneficial when drilling harder alloys or when machine spindle power is limited. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard Jacobs-style drill chucks and collet systems sized for 0.1610-inch shanks. It conforms to ASME B94.11M standards for short-series twist drills and carries the ANSI specification designation, making it appropriate for use where dimensional compliance is required by a quality plan or customer print.
Designed as an OEM-style screw machine length drill bit for use in standard drill chucks, collet systems, and turret lathe tooling that accept a straight-cylindrical shank at 0.1610 inches in diameter. Suitable for drilling alloy steel and aluminum workpieces in general-purpose machining applications.
Secure the shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation; verify runout with a dial indicator in precision applications. Always apply a compatible cutting fluid or cutting oil when drilling alloy steel to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before changing or inspecting the bit. Refer to the machine manufacturer's feed and speed tables for the workpiece material — do not exceed the rated RPM for the bit diameter.
