The CLEVELAND C04424 is a screw machine length (stub length) drill bit designed for high-volume drilling applications where rigidity and precision matter. Ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned tip geometry that reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.116 inches in diameter, matching the wire gauge size 32 designation at a decimal diameter of 0.116 inches. Overall length is 1.875 inches with a flute length of 0.875 inches. The shorter body compared to jobber-length bits provides increased rigidity and reduced deflection in tight fixture or turret setups.
This bit is suited for use in screw machines, CNC turret lathes, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where a short, stiff drill is required. It performs well in alloy steel and aluminum workpieces under general-purpose cutting conditions. The right-hand spiral flute design handles standard clockwise-rotation spindles. It is a single-piece, individual bit packaged as a quantity-one unit, appropriate for maintenance toolrooms, production shops, and field service kits requiring small-diameter precision drilling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for screw machines, turret lathes, and drill presses requiring a wire gauge size 32 short-length drill bit with a straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with standard drill chucks accepting shank diameters of 0.116 inches.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing bits. Secure the shank fully within the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth to prevent pullout during cutting. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material being drilled.
