The CLEVELAND C04394 is a screw machine length (stub length) drill bit designed for high-volume, short-reach drilling applications in metal fabrication and machining environments. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit carries a wire gauge size of 46, equal to 0.0810 inches in diameter. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned tip geometry reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation on entry. At 1.75 inches overall length, this stub-length format delivers added rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it well suited for use in screw machines, turret lathes, CNC machining centers, and drill presses where runout control and chatter resistance matter. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix handle chip clearing in a right-hand cut direction.
This bit is rated for general-purpose drilling in alloy steels and aluminum and meets ASME B94.11M standards. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0810 inches diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without adapter sleeves. The short flute length of 0.75 inches and 1-inch shank length are sized specifically for screw machine setups where minimal tool extension reduces deflection. Machinists, tool-and-die techs, and production floor operators working in job shops, production machining cells, and light manufacturing will find this bit fits recurring small-diameter drilling workflows.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose screw machine length drill bit suited for use in screw machines, turret lathes, CNC machining centers, and drill presses. Rated for primary workpiece materials including alloy steels and aluminum per Series 2120 specifications.
Install in a properly sized drill chuck or collet that matches the 0.0810-inch straight-cylindrical shank diameter, ensuring full shank engagement to minimize runout. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling; unsupported stock at small diameters is a common cause of bit breakage. Follow machine manufacturer speed and feed guidelines for HSS tooling in the target material. Inspect the drill point for wear or chipping before each use, as small-diameter bits at this size range are sensitive to regrinding tolerances.
