The CLE-LINE C30512 is a cobalt mechanics drill bit built for cutting superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials that standard high-speed steel bits cannot handle reliably. It measures 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch decimal) in diameter with a 2-7/8 inch overall length and a 1-1/2 inch flute length. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on contact and lowers thrust force, which matters when drilling into tough workpiece materials in tight setups. The left-hand cutting direction is a deliberate design feature, commonly used when paired with a reverse-direction drill to help back out broken fasteners while drilling. Machinists, maintenance mechanics, and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this bit.
This bit fits mechanics-length drilling applications where a shorter overall length provides better rigidity than a jobber-length bit. It is suited for use in drill presses, CNC drilling setups, and hand drills operating in reverse. Primary workpiece materials are superalloys and titanium, though it performs across a broad range of metals. The gold coating provides a visual indicator of the cobalt substrate and offers light oxidation resistance during cutting. The tapered web configuration and web-thinned geometry reduce cutting resistance as the bit progresses into the material.
Designed as an OEM-style mechanics-length drill bit compatible with standard straight-cylindrical shank drill chucks. Listed for use on superalloy and titanium workpiece materials per Series 1880 specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance mechanic familiar with proper drill chuck torque and workpiece fixturing. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent rotation or movement. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend bit life and maintain cut quality. Do not exceed the recommended spindle speed range for cobalt bits cutting titanium or superalloy to avoid premature edge breakdown.
