The CHROMALOX STW51-24P is a self-regulating heat trace cable designed to maintain pipe temperature and prevent freezing in commercial, institutional, and light industrial applications. Built around a self-regulating polymer core, the cable automatically varies its heat output along its entire length in response to ambient temperature changes. This behavior eliminates hot spots and reduces energy consumption compared to constant-wattage alternatives. The parallel circuit construction allows the cable to be cut to length at any point without affecting performance, making field installation straightforward for mechanical and electrical contractors.
The STW51-24P is suited for use on metal and plastic pipes in commercial construction, institutional buildings, and select industrial freeze protection scenarios. It is appropriate where a flexible, field-cuttable heat trace solution is needed without the constraints of zone or series wiring configurations. The cable can be single-overlapped on the pipe without risk of overheating, which is useful when routing around fittings, valves, and irregular pipe geometries. Licensed electricians and mechanical contractors typically specify and install this product as part of a complete pipe freeze protection system.
The STW51-24P has been identified as a possible alternative or replacement for models FG1-24P, FG1-36P, PSR1024, and ORF-P-024 from other heat trace cable manufacturers. Installation of heat trace cable should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 427 and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out all circuits before handling existing trace cable or electrical connections. Follow the manufacturer's installation guide for end seal, splice, and power connection kit selection appropriate to the exposure rating and circuit voltage. Do not energize the cable before insulation and jacketing are properly secured.
