The CHICAGO-LATROBE 70301 is a jobber length drill bit sized to Letter A (0.2340 inches) and built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. It is designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking applications, delivering consistent hole quality across a range of ferrous materials. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned tip reduce entry force and improve centering without requiring a pilot hole. At 3.875 inches overall length with a 2.625-inch flute, this bit fits standard drill chucks and is sized for production and maintenance drilling in shop or field settings. Machinists, tool-and-die techs, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users.
This bit is suited for drilling cast iron and steel in both shop and field environments. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw chucks on drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications. It carries a DIN 338 standard designation, making it a recognized fit for general metalworking drilling tasks in industrial, commercial, and maintenance-repair operations where a Letter A bore diameter is specified.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit for use in cast iron and steel. Compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks. Part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 150T line for general metalworking applications.
Installation and use of this bit is performed by machinists, maintenance mechanics, or qualified trade professionals operating drill presses, hand drills, or CNC equipment. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck before operation to prevent runout. Confirm spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter — excessive speed accelerates coating wear and can damage the cutting edge. Inspect the bit for chipping or wear before each use and replace when the cutting edge shows visible degradation.
