The CHICAGO-LATROBE 70232 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and general industrial applications. It is manufactured from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that extends tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. The bit measures 0.5000 inches in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle and a 6-inch overall length. Two spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during drilling. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces thrust force needed at breakthrough, making it well-suited for hand-held and drill-press work on steel and cast iron.
This bit is built for right-hand cutting in a straight-cylindrical shank configuration with a shank diameter of 0.5000 inches. It fits standard drill chucks on benchtop drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand drills used in fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and mechanical contracting. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are cast iron and steel. The Series 150T is a general-purpose grade intended for everyday production drilling where consistent diameter tolerance and finish quality are required. Coolant-through capability is not included in this design.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit for use in standard drill-press and hand-drill applications drilling cast iron and steel. Conforms to DIN 338 standards for jobber-length twist drill bits.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using a drill press, magnetic drill, or hand drill with a 1/2-inch or larger chuck capacity. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before beginning a cut. Always reduce feed rate near breakthrough to prevent grabbing. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling.
