The CHICAGO-LATROBE 70220 is a jobber-length drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in cast iron and steel. It is manufactured from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that increases surface hardness and reduces friction during cutting. The bit features a 118-degree standard point angle, a right-hand spiral flute, and a web-thinned, tapered-web geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 5/16 inch in diameter and seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks. At 4.5 inches overall length with a 3.1875-inch flute length, this is a standard jobber proportion suited to a wide range of drill press and hand-drill applications.
This bit is designed for use in metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, HVAC sheet metal work, plumbing rough-in, and electrical trade applications where drilling through cast iron or steel plate, brackets, and structural members is required. The Series 150T designation places it in a general-purpose line suited to production and maintenance drilling environments. It conforms to DIN 338 standards. The TiN coating extends tool life compared to uncoated HSS bits when drilling ferrous metals at moderate speeds without coolant.

This bit is installed by a machinist, HVAC technician, plumber, or electrician using a keyed or keyless chuck drill press or hand drill. Secure the shank fully into the chuck before operation and verify the bit runs true before cutting. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. For ferrous metals, use cutting fluid where possible to extend bit life, and select spindle speed appropriate for the material and bit diameter per standard machining references.
