The CHICAGO-LATROBE 70201 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in cast iron and steel. Part of the Series 150T line, it features a 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch) diameter with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating over a high speed steel body. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned tip allow for clean entry and reduced thrust during drilling. With an overall length of 3/4 inch and a straight-cylindrical shank, this bit fits standard drill chucks and collets used in both handheld and bench-mounted drilling equipment. It meets DIN 338 standards and is suited for repetitive production work or maintenance tasks.
This bit is intended for use in light drilling applications where a small-diameter, right-hand spiral flute bit is required. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron and steel, making it applicable in mechanical, HVAC equipment fabrication, pipefitting, and electrical panel work where small pilot holes or precision bore openings are needed. The 2-flute regular spiral design evacuates chips efficiently in short-depth drilling operations. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 12 units.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit suitable for drilling cast iron and steel workpieces in standard drilling equipment that accepts a straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0156 inch diameter.
Installation and use of small-diameter drill bits should be performed by qualified trades familiar with proper chuck tightening and drill press or hand-drill operation. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent bit deflection or breakage at this small diameter. Verify that the drill speed (RPM) is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter — higher RPM is typically required for very small diameter bits in ferrous materials. Never apply excessive lateral force, as bits at this diameter are susceptible to snapping under side load.
