The CHICAGO-LATROBE 70158 is a jobber-length twist drill bit in wire gauge size No. 58, with a decimal diameter of 0.0420 inches. Made from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended wear life compared to uncoated HSS bits. The 118-degree standard point angle suits general-purpose drilling across a range of common workpiece materials. With an overall length of 1-5/8 inches and a flute length of 11/16 inches, this bit fits standard drill chucks and is well-suited for close-tolerance small-diameter work. It is part of the Series 150T and conforms to DIN 338 standards.
This drill bit is designed for general-purpose drilling in cast iron and steel. The right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation, and the web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust at entry. Typical applications include machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and fabrication environments where small wire-gauge holes are drilled at volume. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks without adapters. Sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 12 units per order.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.0420-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel per Series 150T specifications.
This bit is installed by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, CNC machines, or handheld power drills. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout before drilling to avoid deflection at this small diameter. Do not exceed the rated speed range for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use an appropriate cutting fluid applied externally when drilling steel at depth.
