The CHICAGO-LATROBE 69039 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in steel alloy and similar ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit measures 0.0995 inches in diameter (wire size 39) and carries a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch. The parabolic flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently and reduces heat buildup during deep-hole drilling. At 2.375 inches overall length with a 1.375-inch flute length, it fits standard drill chucks used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working on tight-tolerance applications.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in steel alloy workpieces where hole accuracy and tool life matter. The Series 150DH heavy-duty classification makes it appropriate for shop floor and field applications where standard jobber bits wear prematurely. The straight-cylindrical shank with a diameter of 0.0995 inches seats securely in keyless or keyed chucks on portable drills, drill presses, and CNC equipment. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and hand drill use.
Designed as a direct-fit jobber-length drill bit for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0995-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including portable hand drills, bench drill presses, and CNC drilling equipment set up for wire-gauge tooling.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, or qualified fabricators familiar with drilling speeds and feeds for high speed steel tooling in ferrous materials. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Coolant or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling steel alloy to extend bit life, even though this bit does not have a coolant-through design. Inspect the cutting edges and split point for wear before each use; a dull or chipped point increases thrust and reduces hole accuracy.
