The CHICAGO-LATROBE 69009 is a heavy-duty jobber length drill bit designed for drilling into steel alloy and similar ferrous materials. Sized to wire gauge number 9, it measures 0.1960 inches in diameter with an overall length of 3.625 inches and a flute length of 2.4375 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust required to start a hole without a center punch. The parabolic flute geometry moves chips out of the cut efficiently, reducing heat buildup during heavier feeds. This bit is part of the Series 150DH heavy-duty line and is used by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and general maintenance technicians.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in steel alloy workpieces where accurate hole sizing and clean chip evacuation are priorities. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw drill chucks on both hand-held drills and drill presses. It is appropriate for residential and light industrial maintenance applications as well as fabrication shops running moderate to high feed rates. The bright uncoated finish makes it easy to inspect the cutting edges and flute condition after use.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber length drill bit for use in any standard three-jaw drill chuck accepting a 0.1960-inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material is steel alloy per Series 150DH specifications.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press or hand-held power drill. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized chuck before operation and confirm the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for extended runs in steel alloy to preserve cutting edge life. Inspect the split point and flute edges for wear before each use.
