The CHICAGO-LATROBE 69001 is a heavy-duty jobber length drill bit designed for drilling steel alloy and similarly demanding ferrous materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit measures 0.2280 inches in diameter (No. 1 wire size) and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and improves hole entry without a center punch. The parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduced heat buildup during high-feed drilling cycles. At 3.875 inches overall length with a 2.625-inch flute, it fits standard jobber-length applications in both hand-held and machine setups.
This drill bit is suited for metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production drilling environments where steel alloy is the primary workpiece material. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks on bench-top drill presses, CNC machining centers, and portable drills. The Series 150DH designation identifies it as a heavy-duty general-purpose bit built for consistent performance in production or field settings where tool life under load is a priority. Right-hand cut geometry is standard for conventional drilling operations.
Designed as a direct-fit jobber length drill bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting straight cylindrical shanks in the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch diameter range, including bench drill presses, portable electric drills, and compatible CNC toolholders.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before beginning a cut. For machine use, confirm spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter per standard machining references. Inspect the cutting edges and split point before each use and replace or resharpen when edge degradation is visible. Do not force the bit through material at feeds that cause excessive heat or chatter, as this accelerates wear and can cause premature failure.
