The CHICAGO-LATROBE 68922 is a jobber-length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in steel alloy and similar ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and lowers the thrust needed to start the hole. The parabolic flute geometry clears chips aggressively, making it well suited for deeper holes where chip packing is a concern. At 11/32 inch (0.3438 inch) in diameter with an overall length of 4-3/4 inches and a flute length of 3-7/16 inches, the 68922 is part of CHICAGO-LATROBE's Series 150DH heavy-duty line. It is installed by machinists, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and general trade professionals working in metal fabrication or mechanical installations.
The 68922 fits standard drill chucks and is intended for use in handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC equipment where a straight-cylindrical shank is accepted. Primary workpiece material is steel alloy, though the HSS construction and bright finish make it appropriate for a range of structural and sheet metals encountered in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade work. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces cutting resistance, which is particularly valuable when drilling in tight or repetitive production scenarios.
Designed for use in any drill press, handheld drill, or CNC spindle accepting an 11/32 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for steel alloy as the primary workpiece material per Series 150DH specifications.
Secure the shank fully in a properly sized chuck before operation and confirm the chuck is tightened to prevent slippage. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece to prevent rotation. When drilling steel alloy, use a cutting fluid or coolant to extend bit life and reduce thermal stress on the cutting edge. Inspect the split point and flute edges for chipping or dullness before each use and replace the bit if deformation is observed.
