The CHICAGO-LATROBE 68826 is a heavy-duty taper length drill bit machined from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish. It measures 13/32 inch (0.4062 inches) in diameter with a 7-inch overall length and a 5-5/8-inch parabolic flute. The 135-degree split point is web-thinned for a self-centering start, reducing the need for a center punch on most materials. The tanged shank seats securely in taper-length drill sleeves or compatible chucks. This bit is designed for production drilling environments where machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance trades require consistent performance in harder workpiece materials.
The 68826 is suited for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during deep-hole drilling operations. The tapered web configuration adds core strength across the flute length. Typical applications include general machine shop work, maintenance and repair drilling, and fabrication operations where a longer reach than a jobber-length bit is required. The right-hand cut and tanged shank make it compatible with standard drill press and lathe setups.
Designed as an OEM-style production drill bit for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with taper-length drill sleeves or standard chucks accepting a 0.4062-inch shank diameter. Rated for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and non-ferrous metals as stated in manufacturer specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance trades familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the bit. Secure the tanged shank fully in the sleeve or chuck to prevent slippage under load. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material to avoid premature edge wear or bit breakage.
