The CHICAGO-LATROBE 57209 is a jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide coating, it delivers reliable performance in production and maintenance drilling applications. The bit measures 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch) in diameter with a 118-degree split point that self-centers on contact and reduces walking at the start of a hole. Overall length is 2-7/8 inches with a 1-3/4 inch flute length. The straight cylindrical shank and regular spiral flute geometry make it compatible with standard drill chucks. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and general tradespeople use this bit for metal, composite, and light-alloy work.
The 57209 is suited for drilling in magnesium alloy and similar light metals, as well as general shop and field applications. The two-flute spiral design promotes chip evacuation during through-hole drilling. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust required at the drill point, which is especially useful when working with thinner or softer materials. This bit is sold individually and is part of the Chicago-Latrobe Series 150K, a general-purpose HSS drill line intended for everyday production and repair use.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement jobber drill bit in the Series 150K line, compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a straight cylindrical shank of 0.1406 inch diameter.
Install in a calibrated drill press, hand drill, or drill driver with the chuck tightened securely before operation. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. When drilling magnesium alloy or other reactive light metals, follow applicable shop safety procedures for controlling fine chips and swarf. No coolant-through capability; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling harder materials to extend bit life.
