The CHICAGO-LATROBE 53918 is a heavy-duty jobber length drill bit designed for drilling into steel alloy and similar ferrous materials. Manufactured from high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction during cutting. The bit features a 135-degree split point for fast penetration and reduced walking without a center punch. A parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation in deep-hole applications. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 25/64 inch in diameter, matching the drill diameter for use in standard drill chucks. This bit is suited for machinists, pipefitters, fabricators, and other trades that drill metal regularly.
The 53918 is built for production and maintenance drilling in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings. It fits standard three-jaw drill chucks and is appropriate for use in drill presses, magnetic-base drills, and hand-held power drills. The parabolic flute and web-thinned, tapered web design make it particularly effective when drilling through steel alloy stock, structural members, pipe, and plate. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and power drill use.
Designed as a Series 150DHT jobber length drill bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 25/64 inch straight-cylindrical shank, compatible with drill presses and portable power drills commonly used in metal fabrication and mechanical trades.
This drill bit is installed and serviced by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and HVAC or plumbing technicians performing metal drilling tasks. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling steel alloy to manage heat buildup, even though this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
