The CHICAGO-LATROBE 53913 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in steel alloy and similarly demanding materials. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction at the cutting edge. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking on hard surfaces. A parabolic flute profile clears chips aggressively, which matters on deep holes where chip packing causes heat and breakage. Straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard three-jaw chucks. This bit is used by HVAC techs, plumbers, electricians, and sheet-metal workers drilling mounting holes, knockouts, and access points through structural steel and equipment frames.
The 53913 fits production and maintenance drilling applications in both residential and commercial trade work. At 4.5 inches overall length with a 3.1875-inch flute, it handles typical jobber-depth holes in steel plate, angle iron, tube steel, and fabricated brackets. The web-thinned, tapered-web design keeps cutting forces low even in harder alloy steels. Right-hand cut rotation is compatible with all standard corded and cordless drill drivers and drill presses. Single-unit packaging makes it practical as a replacement bit or a toolbox spare for field service technicians who drill steel daily.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement drill bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 5/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suited for drilling steel alloy and similar ferrous materials in trade and production applications.
Install and remove drill bits only when the drill or drill press is fully powered off and, on corded tools, unplugged. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent rotation or movement during the cut. Follow applicable OSHA and shop-safety guidelines for eye protection and secure chuck engagement before operation. Do not force a dull bit through material; a TiN-coated HSS bit can be resharpened by a qualified tool grinder to restore cutting performance.
