The CHICAGO-LATROBE 53912 is a heavy-duty jobber length drill bit designed for drilling into steel alloy and other ferrous metals. It is manufactured from high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that reduces friction and extends cutting life. The 135-degree split point geometry starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking on hard surfaces. With a parabolic flute design, the bit evacuates chips efficiently during deep drilling. Overall length is 4-3/8 inches, with a flute length of 3-1/16 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 19/64 inches in diameter, matching the cutting diameter for direct chuck mounting.
The 53912 is suited for production drilling and field work in metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, HVAC installation, and plumbing rough-in where steel alloy materials are regularly encountered. The parabolic flute geometry makes it particularly effective in applications requiring clean, fast chip removal in deeper holes. It is sold individually and is appropriate for use in handheld drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Its heavy-duty grade rating makes it a better choice for repeated use in professional shop or jobsite environments than general-purpose utility bits.
Designed as a Series 150DHT OEM-style replacement or direct-use jobber drill bit for applications involving steel alloy primary workpiece material, compatible with any drill accepting a 19/64-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm the chuck key is removed before starting the drill. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant on steel alloy workpieces to preserve coating life and maintain dimensional accuracy. Right-hand cut only — do not run in reverse rotation. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating before each use; a chipped or worn tip should be replaced rather than field-sharpened without proper HSS grinding equipment.
