The CHICAGO-LATROBE 53658 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for general-purpose portable drilling in ferrous metals and hard materials. Built from cobalt tool steel, it holds up under the heat generated by drilling cast iron, alloy steel, and carbon steel. The bit measures 29/32 inches (0.9062 inches decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical reduced shank, making it compatible with standard 1/2-inch drill chucks. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-1/8-inch flute length. The 118-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust needed to start the cut. This bit is sold individually and is suited for use by machinists, ironworkers, and maintenance mechanics.
