The CHICAGO-LATROBE 53192 is a taper shank drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in metal, steel, and similar materials using a Morse taper-equipped drill press or machine tool spindle. It measures 1.4375 inches in diameter and carries a 4MT (No. 4 Morse Taper) shank designation, making it suited for larger floor-standing drill presses and milling machines with compatible taper bores. The 118-degree standard point geometry and web-thinned tip reduce entry force and improve centering on flat stock. The high speed steel construction with an oxide finish provides moderate lubricity and corrosion resistance under general-purpose shop conditions. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users of this bit.
This drill bit fits general-purpose metalworking applications in manufacturing, fabrication shops, and industrial maintenance environments. The Series 110 designation places it in a production-grade lineup intended for repeated use in production drilling rather than occasional one-off work. The right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute configuration make it compatible with standard clockwise-rotation spindles. At 14.75 inches overall length with a 9.125-inch flute length, it provides sufficient reach for deep-hole drilling operations where a shorter jobber-length bit would fall short.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a No. 4 Morse Taper spindle bore. Suitable for general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials.
Installation requires a machine spindle with a No. 4 Morse Taper socket; power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the taper shank. Seat the taper firmly by hand and verify it is fully engaged before starting the spindle. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Removal typically requires a drift key through the spindle slot — do not strike the cutting end of the bit.
