The CHICAGO-LATROBE 52470 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for portable drilling applications in metal, cast iron, and wood. The bit measures 1-3/32 inches (1.0938 inches decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch Weldon shank, allowing it to seat securely in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks and holders. At 6 inches overall length with a 3-1/8 inch spiral flute, the 52470 is built from high speed steel with a coated finish for extended wear life. The 118-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers feed pressure across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed trades and general contractors use this bit for structural, fabrication, and maintenance drilling tasks.
This bit fits portable drilling setups and works across a range of common workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and wood. The Weldon shank with three flats prevents slippage under torque, which is especially useful in high-feed-rate portable drill applications. The Series 190F designation identifies this as a general-purpose reduced shank configuration from CHICAGO-LATROBE, suited to situations where a large-diameter cutting head must be driven by a smaller-capacity chuck or drill motor.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with portable drills and drill presses fitted with 1/2 inch chucks or Weldon-style tool holders. Suitable for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and wood applications.
This bit is installed by tradespeople including machinists, ironworkers, and maintenance mechanics. Before mounting, ensure the drill press or portable drill is fully powered down and the chuck or holder is clean and free of debris. Seat the Weldon shank fully into the holder and tighten the set screw against one of the three flats to prevent rotation. Do not exceed the rated capacity of the chuck or drill motor for the workpiece material being drilled.
