The CHICAGO-LATROBE 52469 is a reduced shank drill bit engineered for portable drilling applications in metal, wood, and cast iron. The bit measures 1-5/64 inches (1.0781 inches decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch Weldon shank, making it compatible with standard 1/2 inch chucks without requiring a larger spindle bore. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-1/8 inch flute length. The 118-degree split point reduces walking at startup and improves chip evacuation. Constructed from high speed steel with a coated finish, this Series 190F bit handles general-purpose drilling in production and field environments. It is sized and configured for use by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and mechanical contractors.
The 52469 is designed for portable drilling in a range of workpiece materials including wood, alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. The Weldon shank with three flats prevents bit slippage under torque load, making it well-suited for heavy-duty portable drill motors and magnetic drill applications where shank security is critical. The 2.25 inch shank length provides solid engagement in the chuck. This bit is appropriate for both shop and field use where a reduced shank is needed to fit standard 1/2 inch capacity drill chucks while still cutting a full 1-5/64 inch hole.
Designed for use in portable drill motors and magnetic drill presses equipped with a 1/2 inch Weldon-style chuck or collet. Suitable for drilling wood, alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron workpieces in general-purpose applications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with portable drilling equipment. Secure the Weldon shank fully into the chuck and tighten all flat-engagement set screws before drilling. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or secured to prevent movement during cutting. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and remove the bit from service if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
