The CHICAGO-LATROBE 52463 is a reduced shank twist drill bit engineered for general-purpose portable drilling in metal, cast iron, and wood. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, it carries a 63/64 inch (0.9844 inch) cutting diameter on a 1/2 inch Weldon shank, allowing it to run in standard 1/2 inch chucks even at this near-1-inch diameter. The 118-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force at the start of a cut. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-1/8 inch flute length, keeping the bit manageable in handheld or drill-press setups. Series 190F, right-hand cut, two-flute spiral design.
This bit is suited for portable drilling operations in fabrication shops, field service, and maintenance environments. Primary workpiece materials include wood, alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. The Weldon shank with three flats prevents slippage under high torque loads, making it appropriate for larger-diameter holes where rotational force is significant. It is a practical choice for trades that drill oversize pilot holes, conduit knockouts in panels, or large-diameter clearance holes in structural steel or framing members.
Designed for use in 1/2 inch Weldon-style chucks and end-mill holders. Suitable for portable drilling applications in wood, alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron workpieces per Series 190F specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with drill press or portable drilling equipment. Secure the Weldon shank fully into the chuck or holder, tightening the set screw against one of the three flats before operation. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured before starting a cut to prevent spinning. Follow applicable shop safety standards and manufacturer guidelines for drill speed selection based on workpiece material and bit diameter.
